Bimbo

I call this painting "Bimbo".
I call this painting "Bimbo".

I met Bimbo on the day I went for registration after been admitted into one of Nigeria's Universities. Bimbo was a light skin beautiful lady with eyeballs that could command anyone's attention. Hi, she said in a voice so soft that it made me freeze. I never heard someone sound almost like an Angel. My name is Bimbo, What would you be studying? I lost my breathe and gazed like I had forgotten what I came for. I caught my breathe and stuttered, Statistics, I am going to study Statistics. Ah nice she said, I will be studying Statistics as well. Do you have an accommodation yet? she asked. Yes I said, just got an accommodation in a private hostel close to school. Oh cool, she said, lucky you. I will be coming from home as my Parents lived in town, she said.

This was how a life long friendship between Bimbo and I began. She often stayed over at my room especially during exams. Bimbo was the top student in our class and she worked hard to make sure she kept her grades. No male could beat her, she was known by every lecturer.

Any assignments that she could not solve could not be solved by anyone else. she had study groups after lecture every night in lecture rooms with a few other students, and I regularly joined. We summarized past exams and usually got ready for exam one month to exam. On the last month as Exams were closing in, we reviewed summarized materials. Bimbo was our teacher. Studying with Bimbo kept me on a fairly good grade without carryover courses.

Towards the end of our third year, Bimbo fell in love with a rich business man, Curts that had everything a woman ever wanted. He was cute with eyes difficult to resist. His smiles were very seductive. He spoilt Bimbo so much with gifts. Curts regularly came over to take Bimbo out and she often requested that I go with them. Curts was funny and could crack jokes for hours, we often laughed all evenings.

The problem started when Curts took her to visit his Family. They felt Bimbo was from a different tribe and should not be seeing Curts.

Curts' sisters and Parents did not even wait to get to know how lovely Bimbo was, they just couldn't come to think of the fact that Bimbo may end up to be Curts' wife.

Nnam, said Curts' Mother, it would be nice if you married from home, someone that would understand what we speak. Nnam, Yoruba is too far away. I want my inlaws and I to be able to understand ourselves. Mum, but I love her, said Curts. She is a smart Intelligent charming lady, Mum please get to know her and I promise you that you would love her. Mba, You would not marry that girl, over my dead body.

it was a tough Love road for Curts and Bimbo. Bimbo spent most nights crying. I often cheered her up.

One time when Bimbo was at Curts' place, his Mum stormed in and roared at her, "Leave my son alone". Curts tried to calm his Mum down but she kept raising her voice at her. In the end Bimbo and Curts left the house and came to my place. Bimbo was all tears.

How they loved each other. They went on to get married without any of Curts' Parents attending the traditional Marriage. Curts went with his friends. They had a court wedding before that.

Bimbo and Curts moved in together. Bimbo tried hard to gain the love of her sister inlaws and Mother inlaw. It was hard, but she kept been nice to them.

Bimbo started learning how to cook the meals of the Igbo people and she got a lot of lessons from me. I trained her and before long her Ofe Onugbo tasted like GrandMa's. Bimbo started learning the Igbo Language as she told Curts to never speak English to her anymore. After a short while Bimbo could communicated very well in Igbo. She was interested in the people. She lavished her Mother inlaw and Sister inlaws with love. She called regularly to check on Mama as she often called her. Bimbo was a woman that has come to stay. she mended broken relationships.

She never paid back evil for evil. She was full of love.

She won the heart of her Mother inlaw and Sisters inlaw.

Not long after they welcomed their son, Ugo.  Add comment
